Simon Peter fisher of Men

Luke 5:5-11

The story so far:

Simon Peter was a fisherman, The Gospel does not tell us he was an amateur, he certainly was a established fisherman, the fact that he had at least 4 men working with him, he was not only established he did very well as a fisherman, and a fisherman who does well as even like now a days are very rich and influential men. That is true even now.

It seems Jesus realizes that Simon had a tiring night since he had come to shore without catching a single fish.

Ch 5: 1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

Simon answered, “Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets.”

On one side we have Simon a very influential, experienced, rich fisherman. And on the other an experienced carpenter giving fishing advice to Simon.

What does Simon Peter do ?

He says if you say so, I will let down the net.

When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break.

What happens next is astonishing miracle.

If Simon Peter was fishing the whole night he might have gone hundred deep in the sea, now with Jesus he might have hardly done that, he lets down his net, and YET his net is so full that he needs the help of other fishermen near the shore to help him. (He was not deep in the sea perhaps close to the shore)

So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”

For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken;

10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.”

He also realized he had to amend his ways.

11 When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

Now the Moral of this story we need to amend our ways, trust totally in Jesus, do as Jesus tells you. He will bless all your requirements.
